BIOGRAPHY OF JOHN EVANS ATTA MILLS
Biography of John Evans Fiifi Atta- Mills
He was born on 21st July,1944 in Tarkwa in th the Western region of Ghana but hails from Ekumfi Otuam in the Central region.
He attended Achimota Secondary school where he obtained his 'O' and 'A' Levels between 1957-63.
He attended University of Ghana, faculty of Law,Legon and obtained his LLB,1963-66.Ghana School of Law, Professional Certificate in Law 1967.London school of Economics,L.L M,1968. PhD University of London 1971.Associate professor, University of Ghana faculty of Law,1971.Acting commissioner of the internal Revenue service from 1988-96.
He was a visiting scholar,Liu Center for the study of Global affairs, University of Columbo,Canada 2002.
Again he was a member of the commonwealth Administration of Tax experts, Member of the United Nations Ad Hoc Group of Experts in international Cooperation I. Tax matters.Member of the United Nations Law and population project.
POLITICAL LIFE
He was the first vice President of Ghana from 1996-2000.He was the NDC presidential Candidate for the 2000 general elections, but lost to Mr. John Agyekum Kuffour of the NPP
Again he was the flag bearer of the NDC for the 2004 Elections but lost once more to president Kuffour of the NPP.
On his third attempt at contesting the Presidency,he won the election,this time, against Nana Akuffo Addo of the NPP,to become the first from central region to attain the high office of President and the first vice President to become president.
He died on 24th July,2012 three days after his birthday and being the first president to die whiles he was in off
