 General Fredrick William Kwasi Akuffo,the leader of the Supreme Military Council (SMC) II on November 6th 1978 declared State of emergency. In the middle of 1978, things were totally out of hands since the the inflation rate that thought will be decrease rather increase to 300 percent which was not good for economic growth in the country. General Fredrick William Kwasi Akuffo took over from General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong who was forced to resign for general improper conduct and mismanagement of the economy. Measures put in place to resolve the Economic hardship by the Supreme Military Council II were devaluation of the Cedi. The SMC II devalued the Cedi by 58 per cent. The Idea behind the devaluation was to level the imbalance that existed in the county's balance of payments. The SMC II decided to tackle inflation which they felt was the main problem at the time. Formation of NLM

 The National Liberation Movement (NLM) was formed by some Akan traditional leaders and rebels of the Convention People's Party after the 1954 elections. It was launched in Prince of Wales park in Kejetia in the Ashanti region on 19 September 1954. The movement was supported by 50 paramount chiefs in the Ashanti and it environs. The brain behind the formation of NLM was the chief Lindquist of Asante Hene,Barffour Osei Akotto with their motto "Yate Yen Ho".(We have separated ourselves). George Weah; first Black Man to Ballon d'Or

 George weah the current president of Liberia is the first black man to win the ultimate Ballon d'Or. George Weah was born and nurtured in Monrovia the capital city of Liberia on 1st October 1965. George began his professional football career by playing in many clubs in European countries such as France, England and Italy.  Arsenal Legend Sir Arsene Wenger brought him to Monaco Sporting Club in the year 1998 to play for the French side in the French League1. In the year 1992,the skilled and talented Weah move to Paris Saint-Germain where he helped the Club to win the league for a quiet period of time since they won it.  The June 4 1979 uprising  Background information /  Soldiers spark mass struggle against corruption in Ghana by P K Acheampong On 15 May 1979, Ft. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings was named as the leader of an abortive uprising that took place the previous day. The uprising was the result of a conflict between the lower ranks and officers of the Ghana armed forces. There were rumours that J J Rawlings was to be executed if found guilty by a military tribunal. On June 4 1979, the prison gate where Rawlings was, was broken loose and he was released by dissidents from among the lower ranks.
